The "world’s top event for animal production", EuroTier 2010, is being held at the Exhibition Grounds in Hanover from today (16) to 19 November 2010. The organiser, DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft – German Agricultural Society) reports excellent stand booking figures. Over 1,800 exhibitors from altogether 48 countries, including the leading manufacturers in the industry, will be presenting a full-scale programme and many innovations. EuroTier thus impressively underscores its position as the world’s top event for animal production. The DLG evaluates the booking results on the one hand as a distinct indication that the industry intends to use EuroTier as its international turntable for markets throughout Europe, as well as in Russia and overseas. It sees EuroTier as the forum for the industry worldwide. This is where the companies launch their innovations and meet business farmers and investors, key customers from the industry, trade and research facilities worldwide. On the other hand, the stand booking results are also an expression of a brightening economic environment. Farmers are looking more optimistically to the future again and see development potentials for their farms.Excellent participation from outside Germany
Altogether 724 exhibitors from outside Germany are taking part in EuroTier. By far the largest contingent with 134 companies comes once again from the Netherlands, followed by France with 90 companies. Other large groups of participants come from Denmark (56), China (50), Italy (50), the United Kingdom (48), Belgium (40), Spain (40) and Austria (38). The DLG views the high international participation level of 40 per cent as a clear signal for the growing global orientation of the industry and agribusiness with its worldwide linkages. The companies want to use the EuroTier platform specifically to develop new markets. “The world comes together at EuroTier in Hanover.”
Economic environment for Europe’s farmers has improved further
The economic environment for Europe’s farmers has improved further. This is demonstrated by the results of the Trendmonitor Europe that the DLG has now held together with Europe’s leading agricultural market research institute, the Kleffmann Group (Lüdinghausen, Westphalia). In this survey, conducted among some 3,500 farmers in the Czech Republic, France, Germany Hungary, Poland and the United Kingdom, improvements by comparison with the survey in spring 2010 were ascertained both in the assessment of the current situation and in expected business developments. Inclination to invest is stable in Germany, where every second farmer has investment plans. As the DLG Trendmonitor further shows, there has been a shift in investment projects by comparison with the spring survey in Germany. The core farming branches of farmyard work and field operations have moved back into focus more by comparison with the last surveys, while bioenergy is slowing down slightly. Farmers are thus taking changes in the price/cost relations in agricultural product prices due to the capricious weather conditions prevailing this summer into account. In France and the United Kingdom especially, the improved economic climate is leading to investment plans growing by comparison with spring 2010. In the Czech Republic investment is focusing on animal husbandry for the first time. 45 per cent of the farmers questioned plan to invest in animal production. By contrast, despite improved expectations of business development, the inclination of Polish and Hungarian farmers to invest can be classified as relatively reserved.
Growing farms need modern and professional concepts
The structural change in Europe’s agriculture is advancing steadily. The number of farms keeping animals is continuing to shrink, but total animal population figures are remaining roughly the same, as the farm sizes increase. The farm managers and herd managers on these growing farms need the latest modern and professional concepts in order to develop their farms competitively. This applies for all questions of animal breeding, feeding, management and health, and increasingly also for management and logistic issues. EuroTier 2010 with its comprehensive information programme will provide answers to all questions concerning modern animal husbandry. ‘The exhibition is not simply an innovations forum for modern machinery, equipment and installations, but also an ideas and impulse forge for major forward-looking concepts in animal production. With the excellent exhibition programme and many information events contained in the technical programme, EuroTier will provide animal farmers with answers to the many questions concerning the future. The exhibition helps to develop strategies and points up prospects for the future.
EuroTier – Europe’s largest market for innovations
EuroTier is the largest market on the European and world stage for innovations in the fields of machinery, installations and equipment and farm inputs for professional animal husbandry. That is why the leading manufacturers are displaying their innovations and further developments for 2010/2011 in Hanover. The once again high number of 200 innovations submitted for DLG’s innovations campaign confirms that manufacturers show no signs of slowing down the pace of innovation effort. The neutral and international commission of experts made up by DLG selects “EuroTier” innovations on the basis of strict criteria from among all the submissions by exhibitors and awards them Gold and Silver Medals. The commission is made up of experts and farmers from the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany. The Innovations Magazine that will be published in German and English in mid-October provides detailed information about the Gold and Silver Medal winners. It also contains particulars of all the products registered with the DLG for EuroTier and classified by the expert commission as company innovations.
Poultry husbandry – feeding, climate control, animal health and bioenergy in focus
In agreement with the international poultry industry, the next World Poultry Show at EuroTier will be held in the year 2012. That is why the number of poultry sector exhibitors at this year’s EuroTier will be somewhat more moderate. Poultry farmers visiting EuroTier 2010 will find information they need above all in the cross-animal sectors of feeding, climate control, animal health and bioenergy.
“BioEnergy Decentral” attracts great interest
Exhibitor interest in the “BioEnergy Decentral” exhibition at EuroTier is also very lively. This exhibition, being organised in close cooperation with VDMA Power Systems and the VKU (Verband Kommunaler Unternehmen – association of municipal utilities) caters to the substantial interest in this new business segment displayed in agriculture. Renewable energies – and here in particular bioenergy – are playing an over greater role in the intelligent mix of available energy providers. The energy industry, agriculture and forest management, municipalities and industrial companies as well as plant designers and builders are ideal partners in these business models. Public utilities are increasingly seeking partners in rural areas to generate added value and keep it locally. Synergy effects resulting from the concentration on core competences of the partners can be exploited here. Forms of cooperation extending from supply of raw material through to distributing the energy produced from it are conceivable in this connection. This encounters substantial interest among farmers and forest managers. For instance, many farm operators of biogas facilities seek cooperation arrangements with public utilities. The key areas of the exhibition programme at BioEnergy Decentral include biogas with slurry and energy plants, as well as wood, energy grain and biofuels. Some 300 specialist exhibitors from these areas will be showing their innovations and further developments. This programme will be supplemented by a further 200 exhibitors with product ranges addressing both animal farmers and bioenergy specialists. Furthermore, the two specials “Energy from wood chips” and “Biogas from sugar beets” in the open air section of the exhibition will look more deeply into these matters. As the world’s forum for decentralized energy supply, “BioEnergy Decentral” brings together the various segments and market partners. With its excellent programme it will offer a unique marketplace for information on all aspects of bioenergy partnerships.
bpt-Congress scheduled to coincide with EuroTier again
Following the successful premiere in 2008, the German Association of Veterinary Practitioners (bpt) will be holding its annual conference and associated “Veterinary Exhibition” to partly coincide with EuroTier at the Exhibition Grounds in Hanover once again in 2010. An “International Animal Health Event” organised jointly by the DLG and bpt will once again serve veterinarians from all over the world as a meeting place and contact forum, and also as a link between EuroTier and the bpt Congress.
Top-flight international technical programme
Together with partners from the worlds of business, academia, consultancy, associations and organisations, the DLG will once again this year be presenting a comprehensive technical programme supplementing the programme offered by exhibitors. It will include international congresses and events, as well as animal species-specific forum events addressing topical trends and key developments in the industry. For instance, the EuroTier Pig Event, the EuroTier Dairy Event and the International Poultry Event for top international farmers will all be held at the Convention Center (CC) on 15 November 2010, the eve of the exhibition opening. These events are major contact and information forums. Top-flight speakers will address current topics and thus provide impetus for the future at each of them. In addition, an international panel discussion for the poultry branch will be held on this day. In addition the ZDG (Zentralverband der Deutschen Geflügelwirtschaft - Central Association of German Poultry Producers) will be holding its General Meeting at the Convention Center (CC) in the Exhibition Grounds Hanover on 15 November 2010.
On the second day of the exhibition (17 November 2010), the market interlinkages between the European Union and the new Customs Union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will be discussed at an East European Conference. The second Chinese-European Pig Conference will also be held on 17 November 2010.
At the daily forum events being held separately for each of the main animal species, representatives from science and research, consultancy, industry and practical farming will talk about current trends and important developments relating to interesting topics. There will be simultaneous German/English interpreting at many of these events. This makes EuroTier’s forum events a major source of information for international visitors too.
A “Young Farmers Day” is once again being organised for young farmers and students of agriculture from home and abroad at EuroTier 2010. In addition to a visit to EuroTier on 18 November 2010, the programme will include various job forums, a future congress and opportunities to meet and exchange experiences, culminating in the highlight of the “Young Farmers Party”.
Multilingual information on the Internet
The DLG has set up a special, multilingual information service on the Internet, so that all interested in the exhibition can gather information about EuroTier 2010 quickly and comprehensively. The website has information pages in German, English and many other languages. The EuroTier Internet site is updated constantly and includes information about exhibitors, innovations and the technical programme. International visitors will also be able to find information about the DLG TravelService with contact agents in 45 countries.
High numbers of visitors expected
The DLG reports strong visitor interest from both home and abroad. Preliminary enquiries indicate large numbers of visitors from Germany’s neighbours in Western and Northern Europe. Many specific intentions to visit the exhibition have been registered. In addition many experts are expected from the Central and Eastern European countries, chiefly from Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine and the Baltic countries. No forward-looking animal farmer can afford to do without this excellent source and range of information. A visit to EuroTier 2010 is a must for business farmers. The DLG expects more than 120,000 visitors.
