Brits scramble for eggs

Print

big-ben-london1Britain has fallen back in love with the egg, according to new figures released by British Lion eggs.

The latest retail sales data shows it’s no yolk, as 12m more eggs* were consumed in September, compared with the same period a year ago.

Overall sales have risen by more than 60m in the last two years as consumers add eggs to their menus.

Andrew Parker, Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council, believes the sales rise is down to a number of factors: “In recent years we’ve seen major health and heart organisations lift their limits on egg consumption and scientists have even added eggs to the ‘superfood’ list.  Combine this with eggs’ versatility, convenience and low cost and you really do have a fantastic recipe for success.”
