NowruzTajik2007_05In Tajikistan, the average cost of egg ranges between 45-65 dirams/per one (Tajikistan currency unit). As for the meat price, it fluctuates between 19-25 somoni/ per kilogram (Tajikistan currency unit).

Today there is a wide range of chicken eggs in Tajikistan market. Russia, India, Pakistan and Iran are the main importers of this valuable product.

However, recently the growing demand for domestic production is observed in Tajikistan.

According to the Head of the “Tajikstandart” (Agency on Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Inspection) Mamadzarify Safarov, at present the following poultry plants are operating in the country: 2 poultry plants in Rudaki region, 2 - in Vahdat city, 2 - in Shahrinav and Faizabad regions and 1- in Dushanbe city.

All of these plants are supplied with new specialized equipments, that creates favorable conditions to work.

Mr. Safarov assures that domestic poultry plants produce quality products in sufficient quantities, and there have been no complaints from buyers. In addition, in order to support domestic producers, the Government has adopted a program “On poultry industry development in Tajikistan for the years 2007-2015”.

According to Mr. Safarov, today poultry industry is one of the most efficient industries in the country. And this program will allow to increase production of eggs and meat in a short period of time.

Mr. Safarov noted that this program has already given good results. For example, poultry stock is increasing year after year. And this means that soon Tajikistan will not need to import eggs and poultry meat. Ruined poultry plants are being restored in the country.

The Head of the Testing Center of Tajikstandart, Natalia Kurova, expressed her opinion about the quality of domestic and imported eggs: “Both domestic and imported eggs are tested in our center. None of the eggs are allowed for sale unless it undergoes checks and obtains a certificate of compliance”.

She said that both domestic and imported eggs are of good quality by microbiological characteristics. However, she added: “One thing is when the eggs are delivered to the market directly from the plant, and another thing is when these eggs are delivered to the buyer after a long transportation. This raises a question: what eggs are better and more suitable for consumption”.
