Poultry imports into Ukraine from the EU decreased by 11 percent

1648-Ucraina-KievDuring the first 7 months of 2010, poultry imports into Ukraine from the EU decreased by more than 11 percent compared to the same period of 2009, the European Commission reports.

Thus, Ukraine, which in 2009 was the second largest importer (after Russia) of poultry meat from the EU, during January-July 2010 reduced imports of European poultry by 11.5 percent up to 46,500 MT.

During January-July 2010, poultry imports into Russia from the EU grew by 1.3 times and reached 126,000 MT compared to the same period in 2009. In 2009, Russia imported about 227,400 MT of poultry meat (-1.2 percent vs. the year 2008).

In general, during the first 7 months of 2010 the EU exports of poultry meat (in live weight) to third countries grew by 21.4 percent (664,000 MT) compared to the same period in 2009. In 2009 EU exports of poultry meat grew by 3.2 percent and reached 1 million MT.

As reminder, according to a recent forecast of the Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Nikolay Prisyazhnuk in 2010 Ukraine will import about 310,000 MT, which is about 22 percent less compared to the import volumes in 2009.

According to the State Customs Service, during first 9 months of 2010 meat imports into Ukraine decreased by 17 percent compared to the same period in 2009.

According to the Union of Poultry Producers of Ukraine, in 2009 Ukraine imported 398,300 MT of meat products including beef - 16,500 MT, pork – 216,600 MT, poultry – 165,200 MT.

EU countries have export subsidies for poultry meat in the amount of USD 555 per 1 MT.
