Kazakhstan: The main product of the national cuisine is growing in price

Print

kazakhstanDrought in the northern regions of Kazakhstan this summer has led to higher prices for feed for livestock and poultry. As a result, prices for meat and meat products rose by 10-15 percent compared to the same period in 2009.

According to the company “KazAgroMarketing”, the price for all types of meat (including poultry) during next 3 months will amount to 15 KZT per 1 kilogram. The head of the Meat Union of Kazakhstan, Ivan Sauer is of the same opinion. According to him, until the end of 2010 meat prices will not increase much. And as for the prices in 2011 the situation will depend mainly on the effectiveness of Government measures to support domestic producers.

In particular, the state purchase of feed grain should help to restrain prices.

Despite temporary difficulties, Kazakhstan is making big plans for increasing production of meat and meat products.

From the year 2003 to 2009, meat production in the country grew from 67,000 MT to 129,000 MT. In addition, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, production of poultry meat alone in the year 2011 will reach 100,000 MT (an increase of 30 percent). During the next 5 years 10 new poultry farms will built.
