A combined amount of litter from all layer farms in India's major egg production hub of Namakkal in the southern state of Tamil Nadu could generate up to 16 mega watts of power/day, according to an alternative power generating firm. S. Duraraju, Managing Director of Subhashri Bio Energies, said Namakkal's 35 million layers produce 1600 tonnes of litter a day. If processed, this litter could generate 16 mega watts of power/day, along with 800 tonnes of compost and 10,000 litres of liquid fertilizer as by-products.
