Pakistan's plan to impose a value added tax (VAT) on poultry will be a problem to farmers as their cost would increase by at least 20%, said Raza Mehmood Khursand, Chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association. He said that the loss incurred by the farmers would be higher as retail prices are governed by demand and supply, not the cost of production. He called for the government to review all the taxes imposed upon poultry farmers including the property tax as poultry farming is a part of agriculture.
