Print

1291-trimRussia will ban imports of chlorine-treated poultry starting January 2010, chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency on Wednesday. "We... have finally confirmed the norm according to which imports of chlorine-treated poultry will not be allowed into our country starting January 1, 2010", Dr Onishchenko said. The new norm "would not involve any poultry produced in the EU", which had banned chlorine-treated poultry, he added.

Earlier Russian officials said that several major US producers also agreed to conform to the new standard.
