According to the Russian Ministry of Economic Development estimates, Russia will improve its domestic poultry production by 40% in the next 3 years. According to Federal Customs Service (FCS) data, in January-August 2009 Russia decreased the imports of fresh and frozen meat in physical terms by 26.9% compared to the same period last year - to 757,300 t.
In general, according to the ministry, the Russian poultry meat market will keep growing as a result of technological modernisation of production and the improvement of consumer demand. For this reason, the growth of production will drive to further import volume reductions. The share of poultry imports by 2012 will not exceed 15%, compared to 35% in 2008.
