Pakistan: poultry becomes emerging industry after textile

3743-Pakistan-broilerThe dean faculty of fisheries and wildlife of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Prof.Dr Muhammad Akram has said that egg consumption in Pakistan is 67 per person per year, which is far less than up to 350 eggs consumption per person per year in advanced countries while the poultry sector is becoming emerging industry after textile in the country. He said this while speaking at a seminar held on Sunday.

Egg consumption in neighbouring country India is 92 eggs per person per year, which is producing 2,740,000 million eggs per year while Pakistan has a production of 12,800 million eggs per year, he added. The dean faculty of animal production and technology of UVAS Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that university was making close ties with the poultry industry and could resolve challenges and problems through research.

Dr Pasha said that it was a dire need to establish a Poultry Club. Meanwhile, Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) North Zone Chairman Dr. Arched Hanif said egg day was celebrated throughout the county, adding that association had already organized a seminar and festival in University Agriculture Faisalabad, Poultry Research Institute Rawalpandi, Karachi and Multan. Dr Arshad explained that egg promoted healthy hair and nail because of its high sulpher content and vitamins and minerals.
