The poultry sector in Pakistan is becoming an emerging industry after textile due to its growth potential in egg consumption. Prof Muhammad Akram of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) said egg consumption in Pakistan is still low at 67 eggs/person/year, while in developed countries the consumption is as high as 350 eggs/person/year. Therefore, the growth potential for egg consumption in Pakistan is immense.
Prof Talat Naseer Pasha, also from UVAS, said the university was forging closer ties with the poultry industry and through research, challenges and problems facing the industry could be solved.
