The Philippines has lifted the temporary ban it imposed in December 2010 on the importation of poultry products from Japan after the Office International des Epizooties reported that the latter is now free of the avian influenza (AI) virus.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said that Japan reported a total of 24 outbreaks since November 2010, but that control measures were implemented and completed by end-March this year.
Japan however is not a major supplier of poultry meat for the Philippines, whose major source of the commodity are the US and Canada.
