Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce last week banned imports from Thailand after Thai officials had raided chicken slaughterhouses that had sold decomposed chicken. According to Cambodian Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh, Cambodia will prevent all imports of chicken products from Thailand even though the products have had phyto-sanitary certificate. The directive was issued after Thai officers raided local chicken slaughterhouses in Nakhon Ratchasima province on June 13 and seized eight tonnes of decomposed chicken. The factories soaked dead chickens in strong-smelling formalin solution before selling them. It is suspected that the decomposed chickens were sold in rural areas as processed food products.
