A growing number of Indian poultry farmers are subscribing to an online service that provides real-time updates on prices of eggs, chick and feed to aide their decision before selling their products. Started six months ago, www.papaak.com, a portal established by two chicken farmers in the northern state of Haryana, has seen its subscribers surging to 250,000.
By paying a INR 2000/year (USD 44) subscription fee, each member can get the price update either via the web or mobile phone. Nokia India offers a similar service through its newly established agricultural desk in Bangalore.
It charges INR2/day (USD 0.004) for each member to receive the price update.
