Indian egg exports plunged by a third year-on-year during January to November 2010 as the West Asian market is still reluctant to open for eggs from India despite the country has been cleared from the bird flu.
Monthly egg exports from India in the period dropped 30.8% to 62.5 million eggs. The overall export in the period dropped 27.7% to 687.9 million eggs.
“India has been free from the bird flu since June 2010, but key markets in the West Asia including United Arab Emirate, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq have not opened up yet,” said A. Shivakumar, Managing Director of VKS Farms, India’s largest egg exporter that ships 70% of eggs out of India.
