Thai chicken exporters have been told by Thai commercial counselors to decrease reliance on the major traditional export markets like the European Union as competition in that market is escalating while trade barriers are increasingly being deployed.
Recently the EU extended the ban on raw chicken meat from Thailand and some other Southeast Asian nations until the end of June 2012 citing the risk of bird flu.
There has been no new case of bird flu in Thailand for more than two years. Other potential destinations for Thai chicken exporters include Saudi Arabia, UAE, South Korea and Hong Kong.
